First China-Europe Workshop on Weather Radar held in BIT

    The 1st CEWWR (China-Europe Workshop on Weather Radar) had its grand opening ceremony on November 26, 2014 in School of Information and Electronics Engineering of BIT (Beijing Institute of Technology). This was the first forum on weather radar that BIT had ever held and it was dedicated to promoting weather radar technology communication between China and Europe, pushing forward the development of relative subjects and technology, and helping with the weather forecasting as well as preventing and reducing natural disasters.
 

 
    People and associations attending workshop including Professor Leo P.Ligthart, academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, from Delft University of Technology, Professor Huang Peikang and Professor Mao Erke, both are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Gao Shan, the vice-officer of the BIT Office of International Exchange and Co-operation, along with other more than 100 scholars and professors from domestic top-rank universities and institutes, such as China meteorological observation center, Chinese Meteorological Science Research Institute, China Meteorological Bureau of National Satellite Meteorological Center, Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, the 8511 Institute of CAST (China Academy of Space Technology) 1, the 23 Institute of CAST 2, the 25 Institute of CAST 2, the General Institute of CAST 5, the 704 Institute of CAST 9, the 14 Institute of CETC (China Electronics Technology Group Corporation), the 38 Institute of CETC, Ordnance industry group 206, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing University, Chengdu University of Information Technology, Beijing METSTAR Radar Co., Ltd, Chengdu Jinjiang Electronic System Engineering Co. Ltd., Nanjing Qinghou Electronic Technology Co. Ltd., etc.
 

 
    The workshop was hosted by professor Long Teng, dean of School of Information and Electronics Engineering. At the opening ceremony, Gao Shan, vice-officer of the BIT Office of International Exchange and Co-operation, addressed the welcome speech, while Long Teng, appointed Professor Ligthart as a part-time professor on behalf of BIT and presented him the contract.
 

    At the beginning, Professor Leo P. Ligthart delivered a theme report titled “Overview of Weather Radars and First Steps Towards mm_wave Weather Radar at BIT” for the guests. Then representatives of 9 participating units delivered their research reports concerning the Weather Radar while Vice Professor Hu Weidong addressed a report about how’s it going with the Study on the measurement of terahertz Radar Cloud and it attracted much attention. Later, during the free speech stage, Vice Professor Fu Xiongjun hosted the workshop and scholars brainstormed and have a thorough discussion about the development of weather radar.

    CEWWR received great support from "The New System Theory and Key Technology of Radar System Discipline" BIT Innovative Engineering Base, which is also known as Plan 111, and Plan 111 will back up for this kind of conference, making sure it will be an anual event.
