CASC Cup Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition of China Institute of Space Law held in BIT

    On Dec. 20th and 21st, 2014, The 11th CASC Cup Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition of China Institute of Space Law was successfully held in BIT’s Moot Court. Students from various colleges including BIT,  Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, China University of Political science and Law, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Normal University, Civil Aviation University of China, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Shenzhen University and Xiangtan University formed 12 groups. The group that led by BIT 2014 undergraduates Liu Si min, Cui Ling and Yu Xin won the runner-up while another team led by 2014 masters Qiao Xu ning, Chen Meng and 2011 undergraduate Hu Yang xin won Second Prize. Wang Guo yu, the vice director of BIT Space Law Institute won the Best Director, 2011 undergraduate Liu Si min won the Best Oralist and 2011 undergraduate Hu Xin yang won outstanding Oralist.

    Hosted by Prof. Li Shou ping, the Associate Dean of School of Law and the research center director of BIT Space Law Institute, the seminar on the Space Law Moot Court Competition which focused on the approach to upgrade Chinese students’ international competition grades was held after the award ceremony.

    Joanne Irene Gabrynowicz, the professor of University of Mississippi as well as a part-time professor in BIT made a statement as a guest of honor. He not only congratulated the participants on their excellent debates but also said he would gladly to give us more help on the next Space Law Moot Court Competitions.

    Later, three judges, Shang Zhen, the vice director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department of Treaty and Law, Zhao Yun, the professor of The University of Hong Kong and Li Jian gang, the office director of Law Affairs in China Great Wall Industry Corporation commented on this competition. They thought highly of competitors and indicated the great significance of the developing Space Law and intellectual training. Combined with this competition, they also made several recommendations.

    At the end of the seminar, Zhang Zhen jun, the secretary-general of China Institute of Space Law summarized the whole competition. On one hand, he congratulated the excellent performance, on the other hand, he expected that there will be more students devoting themselves into the research of Space Law and contributing to the realization of China’s space dream.

    Also, the delegation of School of Law in BIT will continue to take part in CASC Cup Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition in Asia-Pacific region. We hope these participants can make persistent efforts to write another brilliant chapter.
