Professor Roberto Tempo from Politecnico di Torino visits School of Automation

    On November 3, 2015, Professor Roberto Tempo from Politecnico di Torino (Polytechnic University of Turin), a renowned expert of control theory, chairmen of IEEE Fellow, IFAC Fellow, IEEE Control System Society, chief editor of Automatic and senior editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, paid a visit to our school, at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Control and Decisions of Complex Systems and the School of Automation. He delivered a wonderful academic report titled “Opinion Dynamics in Social Networks: From Consensus to Disagreement”. Faculty and students from the School of Automation listened to the report attentively and conducted a heated discussion.
 

 
    Professor Roberto Tempo presented a social network model based on information exchange, which was used to simulate the procedure of a variety of individuals discussing some topic and finally coming to their own conclusions, proceeding from the actual background of social network. Simultaneously, Professor Roberto Tempo showed his latest study progress in the answer of several questions with related topics and proved the feasibility of related models theoretically. After the meeting, Professor Roberto Tempo discussed with teachers and students of our school enthusiastically. 
 


 
    On the afternoon, Professor Roberto Tempo visited Key Laboratory of Intelligent Control and Decisions of Complex Systems and interacted with students and faculty there. During the academic lecture, Professor Roberto Tempo answered questions on scientific studies brought up by each of them and made suggestions on future research directions, which offered great help to the students.

    Professor Roberto Tempo, IEEE fellow, IFAC fellow, has been dedicated to the study work of uncertain dynamical system, random algorithm, probability and so on. In 2010, he became chairman of IEEE Control System Society. He is now chief editor of Automatica and senior editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. He once won the Prominent Member Award and the Best Paper Award.
