BIT successfully host the 2016”Aboriginal Students’ Summer Camp of Confucius Institute at University of Saskatachewan”

     From June 5,2016 to June 19, Beijing Institute of Technology(BIT)  successfully host the 2016 “Aboriginal Students’ Summer Camp of Confucius Institute at University of Saskatachewan”. More than 20 aboriginal students from University of Saskatchewan (USASK) attended this activity. In two weeks, the delegation visited Beijing and Xi’an. They also had Chinese and cultural lessons, experienced local customs and finished the HSKI Test.

     During their stay in Beijing, the delegation visited universities and organizations such as Primary School Affiliated to BIT, Central University for Nationalities, Beijing Language and Cultural University, and Confucius Institute Headquarter to learn the functioning situation of these organizations. In BIT, students learned Chinese and Chinese culture courses like paper cutting, traditional Wushu. In Central University for Nationalities, they visited the museum, and then understood Chinese minority culture such as costumes and characters. In Confucius Institute Headquarter, the delegation looked around Chinese Culture Experience Center and had an informal discussion with related staff. They also communicated with the foreign students,.when visiting Beijing Language and Culture University.

    In the ancient city of Xi’an, the delegation visited Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU),and communicated with the foreign students as well. Then they learned Chinese cultural courses like calligraphy, watched Shaanxi opera, and looked around the school history room and Center for Students’ Innovation.

    On June 19, the members attended HSK1 test with the organizing of BIT, and gained great results. One of them got full marks.

    During their stay in China, the delegation went to some attractions to do culture study like the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, the Bird Nest, the National Museum of China, the Palace Museum, Xi'an Ancient City Wall, Terracotta Warriors, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. After visiting these places, they had an intuitive understanding and comprehending of Chinese history and culture.

    This summer camp is a part of activities and cooperation Confucius Institute at USASK held for the aboriginal students. It’s also a part of the work plan of Confucius Institute co-constructed by BIT. Chinese Dean of Confucius Institute at USASK Liu Ning led the delegation. Administrative Assistant of Confucius Institute at USASK Zhao Dan, staff of Center of International Communication and Cooperation of BIT, student volunteers at master program station of Chinese international education of School of Foreign Languages attended the activities as accompanying officials.
