BIT Holds 5th BIT-Swinburne Joint Symposium

  On May 18, 2017, the 5th BIT-Swinburne Joint Symposium was held in Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). The symposium contains four sub-forums: Mechatronics and Control, Software and Computer Science, Optoelectronics and Physics, and Engineering Education Management and Internationalization. Over 100 professors and students from both BIT and Swinburne University of Technology attended the symposium.

  

  

  President Hu Haiyan of BIT delivered a speech in the opening ceremony, during which he looked back on the cooperation accomplishments of the two schools. He wished the joint symposium could serve as a great opportunity to further cooperative projects and wished the symposium a good success.

  

  

  President Linda Kristjanson of Swinburne University of Technology said that BIT is a strategical partner and hoped that the two schools can promote scientific cooperation on the basis of the talent cultivation of undergraduates and doctoral students as well as academic communication among scholars.

  

  

  Vice President Mei Hong of BIT and Vice President Qinglong Han of Swinburne University of Technology attended the opening ceremony. Other attendants from BIT include Chen Pengwan, dean of the School of Mechatronics Engineering, Yang Jian, sub-dean of the School of Optoelectronics, Sun Jian, sub-dean of the School of Automation, Niu Zhendong, sub-dean of the School of Computer Science, Dean Ding Ganyi, Sub-Dean Wang Shuliang and Sub-Dean Liu Chi of the School of Software, He Haiyan, dean of the Institute of Education Research and Tang Shuiyuan, director of the International Office; Other attendants from Swinburne University of Technology include Director Timoleon Sellis and Vice Director Jinjun Chen of the Institute of Big Data, Professor Yun Yang of Software Engineering, Chief Professor Baohua Jia of Nanometer Optical Technology, Professor Patrick Zou of Engineering Management of Education, Professor Guoxing Lu and Associate Professor Dong Ruan of Impact Engineering, Professor Xiaodong Huang of Material and Structural Optimization and Director Pankaj Arora of the Office International Scientific Cooperation.

  

  

  Four sub-forums were later held in corresponding schools. Attendants of the sub-forums included over 100 professors and students from the School of Mechatronics, the School of Automation, the School of Computer Science, the School of Software, the School of Physics and the Institute of Education Research. The attendants had in-depth communication and discussion on related subjects.

  During the symposium, the guests also visited related key laboratories, science and research center, and Engineering Training Center of BIT. Representatives from creative groups, such as BIT formula car team, gave the guests an introduction. The success of the bilateral symposium lays the foundation of further cooperation between Swinburne University of Technology and BIT.
