5th International Workshop on Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics is Successfully Held

  During Nov. 2nd to 5th, 5th International Workshop on Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics (IWACII 2017) and 5th International Workshop on Frontier of Science and Technology (FST 2017) was successfully held in the China Congress Hall of Science and Technology. IWACIII 2017 was hosted by the School of Automation of BIT, IFSA, SOFT, BAA, JSPS, IEEE CIS, IEEE Systems - man - cybernetics Society, organized by Japan's Fuji Technology Press and Katya, semiconductor manufacturing equipment Co., Ltd.,and supported by BIT related departments and leaders at all levels. FST 2017 was started by NSFC, CAS AND JSPS and undertaken by the School of Automation of BIT and Intelligent Control for complex systems and decision-making State Key Lab. The theme is advanced computational intelligence and intelligent informatics, while the goal is to share some new ideas about computational intelligence field, develop a new research interest, including robots, big data, etc.

  The opening ceremony was held in the morning on Nov. 3rd, 2017. It was hosted by the headmaster assistant Professor. Long Teng. Professor Long Teng expressed a warm congratulation on the opening of the conference representing BIT. He also expressed a warm welcome for the coming of every professor and scholar home and abroad. He hoped that with the opening of the conference, everyone could learn more about BIT and promote the international cooperation of research in the related fields. The founder of IWACIII, the foreign expert of the School of Automation of BIT, Professor Kaoru Hirota made a speech to welcome the guests. Kaoru Hirota, who also takes charge of the JSPS Beijing Representative Office President, introduced the activities and projects supporting situation that JSPS had done in China. He also hoped that JSPS could promote the development of science.

  Director Zhang Yongtao of National Natural Science Foundation of China Bureau of International Cooperation Asia and Africa and International Organization Section was on behalf of NSFC expressing congratulation on the open of the conference. He also congratulated on the 10th anniversary of JSPS Beijing Representative Office. He introduced the long term relationship between NSFC and JSPS and some important achievement, and hoped that they could continue to deepen the cooperation and promote each other’s technology advancement. Director Zhang Shizhuan of Chinese Academy of Sciences was on behalf of CAS making a speech, and congratulated on the opening of the conference, and congratulated the CAS early stage international partner JSPS on the 10th anniversary of JSPS Beijing Representative Office. He hoped to strengthen the communication and cooperation of each other. Councilor Yuichiro Anzai of JSPS was on behalf of JSPS congratulating on the opening of the conference, and introduced the history of JSPS Beijing Representative Office to the guests. Dai Yaping Professor, the vice councilor of Beijing Association of Automation was on behalf of the BAA greeting to and welcoming every professor and scholar who attended the conference, and he also congratulated on the 10th anniversary of JSPS Beijing Representative Office to the JSPS.

  The conference received submissions from home and abroad. After strict reviews, the conference accepted 93 essays, 20 of them will be recommended to the periodical《Journal of Advanced Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Informatics》as special issues. Secretary Jin Jun, President Xia Yuanqing, Executive vice-president Liu Xiangdong and vice-president Sun Jian who all came from the School of Automation, welcomed the coming of the guests on behalf of the School of Automation. About 140 teachers and students of 38 universities from home and abroad and research institutions attended the conference.

  The conference invited 11 famous scholars to make keynote speeches. The conference was hosted by Liu Xiangdong and Sun Jian, the CEO of SOINN, professor Osamu Hasegawa of Tokyo Institute of Technology introduced the self - organized incremental neural networks, SOINN, and its application in robot control. Professor of Tokyo University of Technology, expert Yu Jinhua of Thousand Talents Program in CUG introduced a Bi-lateral asymmetry leg press and the medical recovery system the leg press applied to. Professor Isao Ono from Tokyo Institute of Technology introduced an evolutionary computation method to solve large black box optimization problems. Professor Xu Xiaoke from Dalian Nationalities University introduced a mining big data and visualization method in the online society Internet. Professor Witold Pedrycz from Alberta University as well as an IEEE fellow and fellow of The Royal Society of Canada introduced a method of associative memory and information granularity related to data linking relationship. NSFC distinguished young scholars, Professor Sun Fuchun from Tsinghua University introduced a spatio - temporal data aware and method facing to dexterous manipulation on robots. Professor Hisao Ishibuchi from Osaka Prefecture University and South China University of Science and Technology as well as IEEE fellow and the chairman of Evolutionary Computation Society of Japan introduced the popular research nowadays in evolutionary computation field, “Super - multi - objective optimization of evolution”. Professor Kazuhiko Kawamoto from Chiba University introduced the application of deep learning methods in data assimilation in the dynamic simulation modeling process. Professor Isao Hayashi from Kansai University, as well as the headmaster of Japan Society for fuzzy theory and intelligent informatics introduced a new decision making model about flexible decision and its application in brain signal analysis and traction of motor skills based on prescribed motion data. NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars, Professor Wang Lin from Tsinghua University introduced the intelligent optimal dispatching method of data driven. The fellow of IEEE, fellow of IFAC, Research Fellow Cheng Daizhan from Institute of Systems Science of Academia Sinica introduced a new research direction made by the cross of cybernetics and game theory, which was called “Control of Game Theory”. And he also introduced its architecture, design, function, approximation Algorithm and so on. During the speeches, experts and scholars were having heated discussions and communications.

  19 presentations were arranged on the conference, including computer vision, complex system, calculation application, navigation and localization, photomizer, language and emotion, intelligent system, evolutionary computation, autonomous movement, IntelliSense and so on. Participants had deep discussions and communications about the academic questions they were interested in. The atmosphere was warm.

  The closing and awarding ceremony was held on the afternoon of November 4th, chaired by Xin Bin,the associate professor of Automation College of BIT(Beijing Institute of Technology). The meeting issued the "JACIII Award for Best Paper ", "JACIII Award for Young Scholar ", "IWACIII 2017 Award for Best Paper ", "IWACIII 2017 Award for Young Scholar" , "IWACIII 2017 Award for Best Organizer" and "IWACIII 2017 Award for Best Service" etc. Professor Kaoru Hirota, the honorary president of the conference and Dai Yaping, vice chairman of Beijing Automation Society, presented the trophies to the award winners. Thereinto, Dr. Ding Shuxin in Automation College of BIT won the "JACIII Award for Young Scholar ", post doctor Donggyun Kim won the "IWACIII 2017 Award for Best Paper", and postgraduate Wang Yipeng won the "IWACIII 2017 Award for Young Scholar".

  The successful meeting provided an in-depth discussion and communication platform for scholars from home and overseas in computational intelligence, revealed the latest research achievements, it also played an important role in developing BIT as a "Double First-class" university, improving the international reputation, academic influence and other aspects of BIT.
