Institute for European Laws of Chinese Association for European Studies Held the 13th Annual Conference at BIT

  Beijing Institute of Technology, Dec 14th, 2019:On Dec 14, sponsored by Institute for European Laws of Chinese Association for European Studies, co-organized by School of Law of BIT, Institute of International Disputes Prevention and Settlement of BIT, the 13th annual conference of Institute for European Laws of Chinese Association for European Studies was held at Auditorium 5 of Building 6 of National Defense Science and Technology Park of BIT. More than 70 experts from over 20 scientific research institutions such as Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, Fudan University, University of International Business and Economics, East China University of Political Science and Law, Southwest University of Political Science & Law, Central South University, Jilin University, Nanjing University, Leiden University, have attended the annual conference.

  

  At the opening ceremony, Professor Li Shouping, academician of International Academy of Astronautics, director of School of Law of BIT, vice director of Institute for European Laws, delivered a welcome speech. He reviewed the developmental history of research of EU laws and introduced the development history of School of Law of BIT. After 10 years of unremitting efforts, School of Law of BIT has not only set up a first-level doctoral program and a post-doctoral mobile station in law, but also established an intelligent technology legal research center and the Key Laboratory for Intelligent Technology Risk Legal Control was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Also, School of Law of BIT has established Institute of International Disputes Prevention and Settlement together with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade to provide high-end think tank support for the establishment of the national Belt and Road Initiative.

  

  Cheng Weidong, director of Institute for European Laws, delivered a speech in which he highly praised the efforts School of Law of BIT made in this annual conference, and he also expressed his expectations for the development of development in EU laws.

  

  Sun Haichao, director of Europe Research Center of China International Issue Research Foundation and former ambassador, delivered a keynote speech in which he emphasized the importance of research of EU laws from the three perspectives of EU itself, EU and China, EU and the world.

  

  Liu Chao, vice director of Legal Affairs Department of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, proposed to strengthen the emphasis on Europe and EU, and to learn from their experiences.

  

  At the annual conference, a total of 33 speakers spoke and commented on four topics: reform of European and international dispute settlement mechanisms, investment agreements and economic security in EU laws, new developments and new areas of European laws, and the EU legal system in the digital age, and they had in-depth discussion.

  

  At this annual conference, the study of EU law has been further deepened, and it has also provided new ideas and brought new developments to School of Law of BIT, Institute of International Disputes Prevention and Settlement of BIT.
