Scholars at Home and Abroad of BIT Work Together to Fight Epidemics

  Beijing Institute of Technology, Oct 14th, 2020: “Five cases of 10,000 protective masks arrived in China smoothly and delivered formally to Beijing Institute of Technology(BIT)!” On Feb 10th, 2020, a group of precious donated materials were sent to BIT, showing the solicitude of scholars at home and abroad for the epidemic.

  Since January, 2020, the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia has struck a chord in the hearts of people across the country, and it is a common wish of teachers and students in BIT to overcome the epidemic.

  Facing to epidemic NCP situation, all the teachers of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Intelligent Robots and Systems(Center) launched the action to fight the epidemic in their own way actively and unitedly. Overseas experts and scholars, full of friendship with China and the Chinese people, have taken practical actions to support China in fighting the NCP epidemic.

  On January 26th, 2020, Professor Fukuda Toshio launched the initiative of "working together to fight against the epidemic" to the professors at home and abroad of the center, which received positive response from experts, scholars and all staff of the center at home and abroad.

  More than 20 overseas scholars, including Professor Marco Ceccarelli, former president of the IFoMM and head of the center’s space robot team, Professor Abderrahmane kheddar, academician of the French Academy of Sciences, have taken active actions to mobilize various forces to raise anti-epidemic materials such as masks and medicines. Due to the fact that anti-epidemic materials have become scarce overseas, it has brought great difficulties to the collection work. However, experts and scholars have worked hard, some of them have driven to drugstores, supermarkets and shopping malls for purchase, some of them have raised funds through their own personal relationships. After nearly a week, with the joint efforts of many overseas scholars of the center, 10000 protective masks and related drugs were finally collected.

  At the same time of collecting prevention materials, overseas scholars also care about the situation of Chinese teachers and students by means of e-mail and video, exhort everyone to pay attention to safety, and express sincere condolences to the teachers and students. "China and Japan are peaceful and friendly. In this extraordinary period, we should work together to overcome difficulties. Japan has experienced similar incidents such as the Fukushima nuclear power plant leakage. I hope that the Chinese government can learn from relevant experience to actively face the NCP epidemic, do a good job in prevention and control, reduce the flow of personnel, and hope that the sick people can get better as soon as possible." The head of the medical assistant robot team at the center, Professor Fujimoto of Waseda University, expressed his condolences to the outbreak of NCP epidemic.

  In the face of the epidemic, while overseas scholars are taking active actions, the center has also done a good job in fighting against the epidemic as soon as possible and coordinated with the deployment of donated materials transportation, launching the fight against the epidemic in its own way.

  In order to deliver the anti-epidemic materials collected by overseas scholars to China as soon as possible, Professor Huang Qiang, executive deputy director of the center, and academician Xiang Changle actively coordinated the customs, logistics, entry to Beijing and other links. Zhang Bo and Jiang yinlai, the overseas youth researchers of the center, delivered anti-epidemic materials through private relations and by means of corporate international business express, and personally drove the goods to the warehouse of the express delivery agency to ensure direct delivery to China. Scholars and teachers at home and abroad work together to establish a fast logistics channel for anti-epidemic materials, so as to ensure that the materials could be delivered to the school on February 10th.

  Since the outbreak, academician Zhang Jun, the leader of the leading group of the center, and academician Chen Jie, the director of the center, led all the staff of the center to conscientiously implement the requirements of the superiors and the Party Committee of the school for various prevention and control work, and actively carry out scientific research in response to the outbreak.

  While doing a good job in epidemic prevention and control work of experts, scholars and staff at home and abroad, the center also actively coordinates and arranges scientific research work of various teams, guides and focuses on epidemic prevention and control, gives full play to its advantages, organizes elite generals, carries out key research work around micro-nano measurement, medical assisted robots, and actively contributes to the anti-epidemic work.

  Actively exploring and improving the accuracy and anti-interference ability of micro- and nano-manipulator systems to achieve flexible operation of single viruses (models) at nanoscale under scanning electron microscopy can provide scientific research support for treatment and follow-up research;

  A microfluidic on-chip system has been developed by using electro-infiltration technology, which can reduce the blood test system to the size of the test box and is easy to carry. This technology is helpful for rapid virus detection;

  The self-care robot developed by the rehabilitation team in the isolation ward of the hospital can be used to record the blood oxygen, blood pressure and heartbeat of the patients in the isolation ward, and provide entertainment and remote video services.

  In the face of the epidemic situation, we need to strengthen our confidence, work together in the same boat, overcome difficulties and make active contributions within our capabilities. All teachers and students of BIT are determined to win this battle against the NCP epidemic.
