Professor John Gery invited to BIT for academic exchange

    John Gery, professor of University of New Orleans, secretary-general of International Pound Research, director of Italy Pound Research Center, a famous American literary critic, poet and poetry translator, was invited by Wang Guiming, professor of School of Foreign Languages and conducted academic exchanges which lasted for two weeks from Oct.14th to Oct.26th, 2012. During this period, professor John Gery gave lectures on the theme of American modernist literature and literary translation in both Zhong guancun and Liang xiang campus. Also, he held meetings with the teachers of School of Foreign Languages about teaching, scientific research and cooperation.
    Professor John Gery focused on American Imagist Poetry in his lectures. He introduces its development and deeply analyzed Ezra Pound and T.S.Eliot and discussed China factor in Pound’s poetry and the connotation of images.

Biography of professor John Gery:
    
    Research Professor of English at University of New Orleans, Seraphia D. Leyda Teaching Fellow at UNO, director of the Ezra Pound Center for Literature, Brunnenburg, Italy, and Secretary of the Ezra Pound International Conference. He is also a rekowned poet, poetry critic, translator, and editor. He has published six books of poetry and his poetry has appeared in journals throughout the U.S. and been translated into half a dozen languages. Gery’s grants have included an NEA Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship (Serbia), and residencies at Bucknell University and the University of Minnesota.
