Shenzhen MSU-BIT University ratified by the Ministry of Education is officially founded

    On October 27, 2016, ratified by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University was officially founded by Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Romonosov Moscow State University (MSU).



    On May 20, 2014, president Xi Jinping of China and president Putin of Russia had together witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation concerning the collaboration establishment of “Sino-Russia University” between Beijing Institute of Technology and Romonosov Moscow State University by the Ministry of Education of the two countries, and the governments of the two countries started the preparations for the construction of the Sino-Russia University.

    On August 11, 2014, BIT, MSU and Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Government signed the trilateral cooperation agreement in running the university. On September 5, BIT and MSU signed the cooperation agreement in Beijing concerning the plan of running the university. On August 31, 2015, the Ministry of Education ratified the collaboration establishment of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University between BIT and MSU.

    After the ratification, we collaborated with MSU and Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Government, and actively pushed forward all the preparation work. In April, 2016, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University submitted the application materials for the official establishment of the cooperation university. In May, a foundation stone laying ceremony of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University was held in Universiade New Town, Longgang District, Shenzhen, and the member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and vice-premier of the State Council Liu Yandong, and the Russian State Duma chairman Naryshkin together unveiled the cornerstone. In June, the Ministry of Education reviewed the application, and arranged an on-the-spot investigation of the official establishment of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University.

    Ratified by the Ministry of Education, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University carries out the education for bachelor's degree, foreign master's degree, and foreign doctor's degree. The first group of specialties includes International Economics and Trade, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics as well as Materials Science and Engineering. In addition, within the specialties, the master's degree and doctor's degree of MSU are applied to Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Mathematics, Geography, Biology, and Material Science and Engineering, etc. Shenzhen MSU-BIT University plans to enroll undergraduates as well as post-undergraduates in 2017 and to enroll doctoral students in 2018.

    The example of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University is considered a helpful attempt for the construction of high-level, demonstrative Chinese-foreign universities. Under the guidance and support of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information and other ministries, together with MSU, BIT will fully take advantage of the specialties and science researches of both MSU and BIT, integrate high-quality educational resources, innovate talent cultivation, specialties setting as well as the pattern of school management, deepen the educational cooperation and communication between China and Russia, and push forward the development of education reform in China.
