Since its founding in 1980, the School of Management and Economics, BIT (formerly the Department of Management Engineering), has seen remarkable achievements in such areas as academic discipline development, teaching, scientific research and exchange with other universities, both at home and abroad. Thousands of graduates work in different professions from large corporations, banks and investment companies, to research institutes, universities and government agencies. Through its diversified programs, the School touches people across the country and is gaining its fame among its counterparts.
The School of Management and Economics is composed of 7 academic departments, namely the Department of Management Science and Engineering, the Department of Organization and Human Resources Management, the Department of Applied Economics and the Department of Public Administration£¬Department of Accounting, Department of Technological Economy Management and Department of Marketing. In addition, there are such research organizations as the Research Institute of Managerial Science, Beijing Research Center for Science and Technology Management, the Research Center for Quality and Reliability, the Education and Training Center for National Economic Mobilization and the Center for Enterprise Consulting and Planning.
The degree programs offered include doctorate programs in Management Science & Engineering, Business Administration and System Engineering, 12 Master¡¯s and 6 Bachelor¡¯s degree programs, among which the degree program of Management Science & Engineering was recognized as the Key Discipline by the Beijing municipal government. BIT is one of the first 26 universities to offer MBA program in China, which enjoys great popularity.
The faculty and staff in the School sum up to more than 130, and over half are titled as professors or associate professors, who are committed to teaching --- one of the most important parts of their work --- preparing students for careers and changes they are sure to face in the rapidly changing world. Our distinguished faculty include Mr. GAN Renchu, renowned professor of Information Management and Information System, Mr. LANG Zhizheng, renowned professor and expert of Quality and Standardization and counselor to the State Council, Mr. LI Jinlin, professor of Management Decision-making and Dean of the School, Mr. HAN Botang, professor of Management & Engineering and Strategic Management, Mr. ZHU Donghua, professor of Data-mining and Knowledge Discovery, and more. Many entrepreneurs and academicians have also been employed as advisory professors and visiting professors.
Recognition of excellence is by no means limited to teaching. The School has been actively developing more and more research projects for industries and local governments. With their sharp mind and creativity, our talented faculty help increase and maintain the competitiveness of the industry, and play an important role in the development of the society.
The School has also set up a variety of research laboratories, including Management Information System, System & Information, Knowledge Discovery and Data Analysis, Research on Modern Organization and Management, System Risk Management, Management Decision-making and OR, Research on Crisis Management and National Economic Mobilization, as well as well-equipped case-study rooms and multi-media lecture rooms.
The School has attached great importance to international exchange and cooperation and hosted such international conferences on Production Management System and Advanced Technology, on Office Automation & Information Management, and on Quality & Reliability. Cooperation with UK, Germany and Thailand in MBA program gives our students truly international exposure. Professors from America, Europe and Asia are frequently invited to come over for lecture and research. Meanwhile, faculties in the School also go abroad to study, lecture, or participate in international academic conferences. Exchange students are equally encouraged with overseas institutions.
