 The School of Physics was founded in 2011,  it was formally part of the School of Science as the Department of Physics. With years of investment and development the school has become one of the national centers of higher education in physics.  It has received privileged university and state investment, in recognition for cultivating high-quality personnel and ongoing excellence in the field of physics, science and technology.

 Possessing a strong academic team, the school has one Academician fellow of Chinese Academy of Science, 18 full professors and 34 associate professors. The school is grouped into 5 research and teaching Centers, which are Theoretical and Computational Physics, Quantum Control and its Application, Static Electricity Research, the Micro-Nano Center, and  University Physics Teaching and Experimental. The main fields of focus in the school are Low-Dimensional Systems and Mesoscopic Transport, Computational Physics, Quantum Regulation and Compressed Sensing, Quantum Information, Atomic Molecule and Cluster Physics, Soft Matter Physics, Plasma and Electrostatic Physics. The research level of the school in these areas is of a high standing within China. The school also shares academic facilities in Physical Chemistry and Cluster Science, forming a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education which was co-established with School of Chemistry.

 The school offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, including two PhD programs in Condensed Matter Physics and Theoretical Physics. It offers eight Master degree programs, in Theoretical Physics, Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Plasma Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Acoustics, Optics, Radio Physics, and a bachelor degree program in Applied Physics. Annually anew cohort of about 90 undergraduates, 50 graduated students, and more than 20 PhD candidates join the school. The school facilitates two municipal courses, College Physics and College Physics Experiments, which are known for their excellence in Beijing, with the Physics Laboratory Center being the municipal experimental teaching demonstration center of Beijing. Its advanced facilities allow the school to offer various experimental courses including General Physics Experiments, Modern Physics Experiments and Applied Physics Experiments.

 The students in the school are required to have quite a good foundation of physics and mathematics. In personnel training, the school attaches importance not only to a solid theoretical basis, but also to training for experimental techniques, the application of computation and the ability of applying physical theory to solve physical problems in engineering. The students graduated from the school are capable of doing not only research, teaching and experimental work, but also research work of related engineering specialties such as development of new techniques and new products due to their strong adaptabilities.
