Undergraduate Training

  The School of Information and Electronics of Beijing Institute of Technology was formerly known as the Department of Electronic Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology. It was originally founded in 1953 as the Department of Radar Design and Manufacturing, and the Department of Radio Engineering in 1956. The school was among China’s first educational and research institutes in radar, remote control, and telemetry technologies. Now, the school has four undergraduate majors which are Electronic and Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Communication Engineering, and Information Confrontation Technology. Since 2013, the four majors began to uniformly enroll new students as Electronic Information Category.

  The Electronic and Information Engineering Major is listed as Beijing City Major Discipline, Beijing Institute of Technology Brand Major, and is selected in the Excellent Engineers Education and Training Programme; The Electronic Science and Technology Major is listed as Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Primary Discipline; The Communication Engineering Major is listed as National Defence Major Discipline; The Information Confrontation Technology Major is listed as Beijing City Major Discipline, Ministry of Education’s Major Discipline, and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Primary Discipline. The Electronic Science and Technology Major and the Communication Engineering Major passed National Engineering Education Accreditation in 2012, and the Electronic and Information Engineering Major passed the Accreditation in 2013.

  For over 60 years, with a team of high standard teaching staff, excellent teaching and research conditions, and strong scientific research strength, the school nurtured over 8000 bachelors for the country, including leading figures in science and technology, such as Academician Wang Xiao’mo, who has won State Supreme Science and Technology Award 2012, and Academician Wu Yirong, Director of the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now, the school has 1731 full-time undergraduate students and over 400 annual undergraduate enrollments.

  The school has 2 state level educational teams, 2 Beijing City level educational teams, 2 state level fine quality courses, and 6 Beijing City level fine quality courses. The school embraces excellent teaching and experimental conditions, which include National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrotechnics and Electronics, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Information System and Security Countermeasures, School Level Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Information Technology, 3 school level college student innovation and venture practice bases, and more than 10 college-enterprise joint laboratories. These centers and laboratories provide fine favorable conditions for college students to develop independent learning and technological innovation activities. The school also sets multiple organization for students' extracurricular science and technology activities, which plays important rolling in nurturing students’ science and technology innovative and practical abilities. Besides, the school sets 4 state level college-enterprise joint engineering practice education centers, over 20 school level engineering practice education centers, 1 Beijing City off-campus training base, and was among the first schools to join in the Cooperation Plan between Universities and CAS Institutions for Talent Cultivating.

  The further study ratio of Electronic Information Category graduates exceeds 70%, and the disposable employment rate is nearly 100%. The graduates are mainly oriented to research institutions of national defense or engineering departments, technology development institutions, enterprise and public institutions, national ministries, the military, large private and foreign funded enterprises, etc., for instance, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp., China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation., China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, China North Industries Group Corporation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and universities. The graduates are engaged mainly in the research, utilization, managing, and teaching of Radar Satellite Navigation, Signal Processing, Radio Technology, Image Processing, Integrated Circuit Design, Computer Communication, Information Systems Security, Semiconductor Circuit Design and other relative fields.

  The teaching features of the school mainly includes the following aspects:

  1.A "broad-bore" talent cultivating pattern

  The School of Information and Electronics has carried on the exploration of Education and Teaching since 1997. The school adopted a "broad-bore and solid foundations" talent-cultivating pattern in the nurturing of Electronic Information Category graduates. Besides, the school collaborated the public basic courses and major basic courses. The students finish similar course modules in the first five semesters, and take specialized courses according to their majors and specialties.

  2.The exploration of research-orientedlearningmode

  The research-oriented learning courses set in the School of Information and Electronics have gradually formed a relatively complete system, and will progressively extend from now on. These courses are set mainly in the majors’ elementary education stage and have a wide coverage on different majors, so as to provide solid foundation for the development of various specialties.

  3.The nurturing of outstanding innovative talents

  The School of Information and Electronics established Electronic and Information Engineering Experimental Class in 1994, which was one of the first experimental classes to conduct education reform among the related fields in China. The class adopts 2+2 training model, and is featured by research-oriented learning and self-directed learning, so as to fulfill the need for high-level innovative scientific talents of the society. In the past two decades, the class has made remarkable achievements on promoting the education reform, attracting talents, constructing excellent academic atmosphere, improving talents training quality, and preparing talents for postgraduate educations.

  The school also started bachelor-master-doctorate programme on Electronic and Information Engineering Major in 2009. The goal of the programme is to explore an effective approach to cultivate top talents and scientific pioneers in the related disciplines and professional fields; to put the interdisciplinary personnel training mechanism into practice, and strive the bring up “engineering scientists”; and to shoulder the important task to realize the leap from “Made in China” to “Made by China”. The class has been converted to Xu Teli Elite Class in School of Xu Teli since 2013.

  4.Internationalized education and talent cultivation

  The School of Information and Electronics established Electronics Science and Technology Bilingual Experimental Class in 2008, and upgraded the class to full English teaching internationalized education class in 2011. In the teaching part, the class draws up internationalized teaching plans and training programs in reference to the curriculum system of leading foreign universities exclusively, and recruits famous foreign professors and outstanding teachers with oversea study experiences to give lectures in English. The class also creates opportunities for students to take oversea exchanges, curriculums and practices actively. The goal of the class is to promote the internationalization of the postgraduate education and the university as a whole, level up the international competitiveness and communicational abilities of the students, to provide solid driving force for the students to make further developments on the international stage as well as in the process of economic globalization.

  5. Interdisciplinary engineering talents cultivation

  Ministry of Education together with Chinese Academy of Sciences initiated the Cooperation between Universities and CAS Institutions for Talent Cultivating in 2012. The School of Information and Electronics was among the first institute to response the Plan, and signed up a strategic cooperation agreement with Institute of Electrics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on the Plan. The two parties started to set up Information technology elite class in 2012,and combined elite cultivation with excellent engineer training programme, so as to play out the advantages of our school and CAS on theoretical foundations, science engineering, research and development conditions, and etc., as well as to realize the complement on each other's advantages, sharing on the resources, and joint cultivation of high- quality interdisciplinary talents.
