BIT President Long visits Tanzania, Mauritius discussing cooperation opportunities

BIT President Long Teng and his delegation visited Tanzania and Mauritius from Sept 12 - 19 to strengthen cooperation in education and innovation. During the visit, he engaged in dialogues and exchanges with local universities and government departments on talent cultivation, scientific innovation, and cultural exchanges. BIT signed or renewed cooperation agreements with five institutions, including the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology.

The delegation visited the University of Dar es Salaam and the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology on Sept 13. During the meeting with Lazaro Anangisye, president of the University of Dar es Salaam, Long expressed the long-standing collaboration between the two universities and the fruitful results achieved in talent cultivation and other areas. He said BIT hopes to explore further cooperation in scientific and technological innovation and cultural exchange. Anangisye expressed similar hopes.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the university's library, which was built with assistance from the Chinese government.

During the meeting with Preksedis M. Ndomba, president of the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, Long expressed his hope for deeper cooperation in talent cultivation and research innovation. Ndomba expressed his gratitude for BIT's support, and stated the institute's commitment to sending outstanding students and faculty for further studies and improving the institute's capabilities.

The delegation visited the Karume Institute of Technology on Sept 14. They were warmly received by the institute's vice-president Khamis Khalid Said, who obtained his doctorate from BIT. Long, representing BIT, awarded Khamis an honorary title in recognition of his contributions in promoting exchange between China and Tanzania.

During the delegation's stay in the State University of Zanzibar, Long discussed with the university's president Moh'd Makame Haji, and invited more scholars and students to study in China. The two sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation during the meeting.

The next day, the delegation visited the Bureau of Education and Vocational Training in Zanzibar, where he held talks with Secretary-General Khamis Adballa Said.

Prior to departure, the delegation visited the University of Technology of Mauritius and the University of Mauritius, renewing a letter of intent for collaboration and the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two universities.

The delegation also had discussions with BIT alumni in Mauritius, exchanging information about the development of the school and the work and lives of the alumni.

This trip to Africa is one of BIT's important initiatives to connect with the world and reshape the mechanism of communication with overseas partner universities, through high-level education and international openness. Through the visit, BIT further enhanced friendship and mutual trust with top universities and important research institutions in Tanzania and Mauritius, effectively enhancing the international reputation and influence of the university.
