School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology was established in 1940 as the Chemical Engineering Department of Yan'an Natural Science Academy. Over the years, it went through several stages and saw its name changed before being finally established as the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2016.

The school consists of the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering, and has 11 research institutes focused on different disciplines, as well as experimental teaching centers and laboratories.

The school has 189 staff members, including 151 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 52 professors and 86 doctoral supervisors. In addition, it has one jointly-appointed academician, ten national leading talents, and 17 national young talents.

The school offers two first-level disciplines, chemistry and chemical engineering and technology. The discipline of chemical engineering and technology ranks 101-150 in the QS international ranking and 36th in the US News global ranking.

The discipline of chemistry ranks 110th in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) international evaluation system and 151-200th in the QS international ranking. The school also has a national key second-level discipline ranking in applied chemistry and key disciplines in physical chemistry and chemical engineering and technology.

The school offers five undergraduate majors: chemistry, applied chemistry, chemical engineering and technology, pharmaceutical engineering, and energy chemical engineering. These majors have been selected for various national and provincial-level undergraduate program construction sites.

The school has established several key research laboratories, including the Laboratory of Atomic and Molecular Cluster Sciences, the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Molecular Sciences and Engineering, the Laboratory of Optoelectronic Conversion Materials, and the Laboratory of Chemical Power Sources and Green Catalysis.

It also has innovative research and collaboration platforms in specialized nanomolecular science and technology and distributed power generation technology for fuel cells.

In terms of scientific research, the school has undertaken over 300 projects in the past five years, with total funding of over 300 million yuan.

It has published more than 1,500 papers in top chemistry and materials science journals and has been granted more than 200 national invention patents. The school has also received numerous awards for its scientific achievements.
