School of Computer Science and Technology

BIT's School of Computer Science and Technology offers one of the earliest and most prestigious computer science programs in China. Founded in 1958, it merged with the School of Software and the Research Institute of Network Science and Technology in 2018 to form the School of Computer Science and Technology.

BIT's computer science discipline is highly respected internationally, ranking in the top one percent globally according to ESI (Essential Science Indicators). It also holds a strong position nationally, ranking in the top 10 percent in China.

The school has 198 faculty members, including 149 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 34 professors, 60 associate professors, and 43 doctoral supervisors. Additionally, 128 of the full-time teachers have obtained a doctoral degree. The school boasts an impressive lineup of academic experts, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one dual-appointed academician, two specially appointed professors under the Cheung Kong Scholars Programme, three recipients of the National Distinguished Young Scholars Fund, and nine participants in the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Program.

The school offers a range of programs in the fields of computer science and technology, as well as cyber security. The computer science and technology program has four sub-disciplines, namely software theory and big data, media computing and intelligent perception, language intelligence and social computing, and computer systems and networks. The cyber security program has three sub-disciplines, which are network attack and defense techniques, network intelligence analysis and decision making, and cryptography and applied security.

The school has key provincial and ministerial disciplines, such as computer application technology, computer software and theory, and digital performance and simulation technology. It also has national research platforms such as the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Software and the National Engineering Laboratory for Key Technology of Network Level Protection. Furthermore, it has the Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Technology, the Beijing Research Center for Massive Language Information Processing and Cloud Computing Applications, and the Beijing Key Laboratory of Digital Performance and Simulation Technology. It has also established joint laboratories with international academic research institutions.

The school is equipped with national-level teaching platforms, including the National University Computer Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center, the Beijing Computer Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center, and the Beijing Digital Media Technology Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center.

It has strong partnerships with industry and offers excellent opportunities for students to connect with companies through internships and joint projects.

In the past five years, the school has undertaken several major research projects and received substantial funding, including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key Research and Development Program. It has received funding of nearly 300 million yuan, with a significant portion coming from prestigious national research programs. It has also won multiple awards, including two National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and has been recognized with provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards.

The school has made significant contributions in various research areas, such as language information processing, cloud computing and big data, computer vision, digital performance and simulation, and software security. These achievements have not only supported the core business of relevant military departments, defense industry enterprises, and national security agencies, but also provided support for major events like the CCTV Spring Festival Gala and Olympic Games’ opening and closing ceremonies. This research has generated considerable social and economic benefits.
