School of Integrated Circuits and Electronics

The School of Integrated Circuits and Electronics at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), originated from the Department of Electronic Engineering of the former Beijing Polytechnic University (BIT today), which was established in the 1960s as one of the first units in China dedicated to radar, remote sensing, telemetering, radio electronics physics, and semiconductor materials and devices.

In June 2021, responding to national strategic needs and aiming to promote the development of the integrated circuit discipline in China, BIT established the School of Integrated Circuits and Electronics. The school was selected as a higher-level talent training project for the integrated circuit field by the Ministry of Education. It also gained approval for the first doctoral program in integrated circuit science and engineering.

The school focuses on two first-level disciplines: integrated circuit science and engineering, and electronic science and technology. In turn, it has a strong faculty and advanced research and experimental platforms.

In terms of research and experimental facilities, it has built several key provincial and ministerial laboratories and engineering centers. These include the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical Engineering and Electronics, the Key Laboratory of Low-Dimensional Quantum Structures and Devices of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Engineering Research Center for Integrated Acoustic Opto-Electro Microsystems of the Ministry of Education, the Beijing Key Laboratory for Silicon-Based High-Speed Integrated Systems Engineering, and the Key Laboratory of Millimeter Wave and Terahertz Technology of Beijing.

The school also places great emphasis on university-industry cooperation, and has established several cooperation institutions in collaboration with local government, most notably with the BIT Chongqing Microelectronics Center and the Micro-Nano Devices and Systems Innovation Center (Yangtze River Delta Research Institute).

Furthermore, it has developed several interdisciplinary research directions over the past 60 years, focusing on national defense needs. These directions include micro-nano electronic science, microelectronics technology, MEMS devices and intelligent perception, millimeter wave/terahertz technology, flexible electronic devices and intelligent manufacturing, RF technology and software, intelligent electronic information systems, and signal and image processing. The school is also involved in over 40 national key projects.
