In 2023, as the team leader, Zhai led his team to address the regional short-term power supply shortage issue.

They developed a "multi-source heterogeneous big data platform" that accurately predicts residential electricity demand in real-time. The team then collaborated with the State Grid Corporation of China in conducting multiple large-scale experiments, effectively reducing the peak load on the power grid during high-demand periods.
