Academic disciplines and majors

The School of Economics has a well-established academic layout in the field of economics, with doctoral programs in two primary disciplines: Theoretical Economics and Applied Economics. It also offers interdisciplinary doctoral programs in Energy and Climate Economics, and in National Economic Mobilization Studies. Additionally, there is a postdoctoral mobile station in Applied Economics. The strengths of Theoretical Economics and Applied Economics complement each other, and emerging interdisciplinary fields are developing rapidly. At the undergraduate level, the school offers three majors: Economics, International Economics and Trade, and Financial Technology. Economics, and International Economics and Trade are both designated as "National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites."

Faculty resources

The school has over 70 faculty members dedicated to providing high-quality educational services. Among them are over 60 full-time teachers, including two national academic leading talents, one national excellent young talent, three chief experts of major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, one member of the Ministry of Education's Economics Teaching Guidance Committee, one member of the Trade and Economics Teaching Guidance Committee, and two Outstanding Teachers of Beijing (including young teachers).

Talent cultivation

The school focuses on high-quality education resources, leveraging the strengths and characteristics of its science and engineering disciplines. It aims to cultivate "creative leaders in the field of economics" for the national economic construction and the rejuvenation of the nation. The school strives to build itself into an international first-class economics school and aims to cultivate economic and financial talents with solid mathematical foundations, professional knowledge in economics and finance, and strong computer skills. Over the years, it has trained a large number of outstanding talents, including university presidents, military generals, and CEOs of central enterprises, earning wide acclaim in society.

The faculty members have rich teaching experience and fruitful educational achievements, having received national teaching awards, national first-class undergraduate course awards, and Beijing education teaching achievement awards, etc. They have guided students to win awards such as the Beijing Gold Award in "Internet Plus" and the Beijing Special Prize in the "Challenge Cup," as well as national-level academic awards.

Besides, the school has signed cooperation agreements with many large and medium-sized well-known enterprises such as China National Petroleum Corp, Goertek Inc, Hisense Group, BOE Technology Group, Shouqi Group, JD.com, Chinasoft International, CITIC Securities, and Industrial Bank Co, providing graduates with high-quality and abundant employer resources and building a high-quality internship and employment platform. Over the past three years, nearly 60 percent of its economics undergraduates have pursued further studies, with over 50 going to prestigious universities including the University of London, Cornell University and Columbia University. Nearly 30 percent of graduates have entered Fortune 500 companies, central ministries and commissions, local government agencies, and financial securities firms, and launched their businesses in emerging service industries.

Scientific research

The school has several provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research platforms, including the Key Laboratory of Digital Economy and Policy Intelligent Manufacturing of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Management and Economics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. It has undertaken a number of national-level major research projects, such as National Natural Science Foundation innovation research groups, key projects, and major projects of the National Social Science Fund. Its research results have been published in top journals in the field of economics such as Nature and its subsidiaries, and the Journal of Finance. Several professors have been selected as "Highly Cited Scientists Globally," "Highly Cited Scholars in China," and "Top 2 Percent Scientists Globally."

International exchange

The school continues to expand the breadth and depth of domestic and international exchanges, opening high-level international exchange and cooperation channels for faculty and students. Current international exchange projects include degree programs with overseas universities such as the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Singapore Management University. It also focuses on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and embraces Hong Kong and Macao, exploring the establishment of an alliance for economics disciplines in the Greater Bay Area.
