BIT's consulting professor receives Chinese Government Friendship Award

The ceremony of the Chinese Government Friendship Award was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sept 30, 2024.

Frank Behrendt, a consulting professor at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), received the Chinese Government Friendship Award, marking the 4th time that BIT professors have won such honor.

Established in 1991, the Chinese Government Friendship Award is the Chinese government's highest honor bestowed on foreign experts. It is presented to commend foreign experts who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to China's social development, economic, technological, educational, cultural endeavors, and talent cultivation.

Frank Behrendt

Frank Behrendt, an expert in the field of energy engineering and technology, is a professor at the Technische Universität Berlin in Germany and dean of the university’s School of Process Sciences. He is a member of Acatech, the director of the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Climate Change, director of the Energy Innovation Center and chairman of the Research Center for Renewable Energy Process Engineering and Conversion Technology. In May 2019, he was appointed as a consulting professor at the School of Management in BIT.

In recent years, he has engaged in long-term and stable scientific research cooperation with the Energy and Environmental Policy Research Center of BIT, and has collaborated on joint graduate student training. From 2004, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses related to thermochemical conversion processes at BIT for three consecutive years.

Behrendt has long been involved in energy system modeling and research on the integration of renewable energy, focusing on research and development of energy conversion technologies and their widespread application, making significant contributions to promoting global sustainable energy development. He holds more than 10 important positions in renowned organizations, such as the International Energy Agency and the Council of the International Academy of Engineering and Technological Sciences.
