2024 International Forum on Higher Education held in Beijing

The 2024 International Forum on Higher Education, jointly hosted by the China Association of Higher Education and the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), was held in Beijing on Oct 12 and 13, focusing on how technological development promotes social progress and fosters top innovative talents through openness and sharing.

The 2024 International Forum on Higher Education is held in Beijing on Oct 12 and 13.

Chen Jie, vice-minister of education and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out at the event that the Ministry of Education has always upheld the concept of opening to the outside world, attaching great importance to international cooperation and exchanges in education. China has extensively engaged in educational cooperation and exchanges with countries worldwide, continuously expanding the international "circle of friends" in the field of education. And China is willing to work together with countries around the world to jointly face the new opportunities and challenges in higher education, engaging in in-depth exchanges and mutual learning, Chen noted.

Zhang Jun, vice-president of the China Association of Higher Education, secretary of the CPC BIT Committee, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, welcomed the guests on behalf of BIT.

Zhang said that BIT has made a significant leap in comprehensive educational strength over the years. The university ranks an average of 220th globally in the top four world university rankings, having made high-level original achievements in multiple fields and a series of significant technological breakthroughs. It engages in cooperation with over 400 universities worldwide, as well as international institutions to jointly promote modern higher education.

Jiang Lan, BIT's president and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, announced the "Beijing Initiative for Talent Development and Technological Innovation" during the event.

In addition, guests, renowned experts, and young scholars from the countries including China, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany gathered to have in in-depth discussions and exchanges on the theme of "Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development".

Having been held 23 times since 2001, the International Forum on Higher Education has attracted nearly 1,000 experts and scholars from over 50 countries, presented a large number of high-level academic reports and generated numerous significant academic achievements. It has increasingly become a wellspring of innovative ideas in higher education and a gathering place for exchanges among experts and scholars from domestic and international arenas.
