The first special session on education and training cooperation in the nuclear field was held in Vienna, Austria on July 22. The program was co-organized by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, the China Atomic Energy Authority, the International Atomic Energy Agency (lAEA), and other international organizations in Vienna.
More than 30 faculty members and students from the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) participated in the event.
The event aimed to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with global vision and professional expertise in the nuclear field.
Experts from various departments such as the Department of Nuclear Energy, Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, Department of Safeguards, Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, Department of Technical Cooperation, and the Office of Legal Affairs of the IAEA conducted lectures and interactive exchanges on topics related to nuclear energy development and applications, nuclear safety, nuclear security, safeguards, non-proliferation, as well as international legal frameworks.
China, as a major country in nuclear energy development and an important member of the IAEA, has consistently placed high importance on and supported the crucial role of the IAEA in serving international peace and development. The practical cooperation projects between the two sides have been increasing, with the scope of cooperation continuously expanding and the modes of cooperation consistently innovating.
This training session has provided BIT participants with a valuable opportunity to gain in-depth insights into global nuclear governance practices and broaden their international perspectives. It further advanced the foundational role of education and training in international cooperation for peaceful nuclear energy utilization.
