In the lab, Yu Dazhong rigorously explores new academic frontiers. On the track, he recently secured the men's 400m title in Group A at the 23rd National College Athletics Championships, embodying youthful exuberance. A master's student from the class of 2024 at Beijing Institute of Technology's School of Mechatronics and Engineering, Yu began his affinity for the 400 meters in high school and was refined with BIT's athletics team.

As a graduate student in Mechatronics and Engineering, Yu is not a student-athlete, yet he has effectively balanced academics and athletics.

"Sports are not a burden, but a 'booster' for learning," Yu says.

His regular exercise routine enhances his positivity and energy, helping him to tackle research challenges.

Yu considers the spirit of sports his "secret weapon" in scientific research, both of which requires enduring solitude, confront difficulties and meticulously seek innovation. When discussing the future, Yu's eyes shine with a passion for life and a firm commitment to his ideals. He is currently working on bridging the gap between research and sports. "Soft robotics holds great potential in the fields of human rehabilitation and sports monitoring. Perhaps one day my research could help sports enthusiasts or those in need of rehabilitation," he says.
