On Sept 27, the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) held the High-Quality Development Conference and Global Alumni Assembly to commemorate its 85th anniversary at the Liangxiang Campus.

Zhang Jun, secretary of the CPC BIT Committee, delivered a speech at the conference.

Zhang Jun, secretary of the CPC BIT Committee, emphasized BIT's pioneering spirit and its progress in the "Double First-Class" initiative. He called on the alumni, faculty, and society to collaborate with BIT in its pursuit of becoming a world-class university, aligning with national development goals for the next decade.

BIT President Jiang Lan highlighted the university's achievements in a report at the conference.

BIT President Jiang Lan introduced BIT's progress in talent cultivation and innovation, outlining its strategic plans for the coming years to enhance BIT's core competitiveness and contribute to national education and technology goals.

In addition, two groundbreaking projects - the "BIT Tianmou-1" satellite and the "BIT Linkong-1" airship – were launched during the event.

The "BIT Tianmou-1" is the university's first independently developed optical quantum detection satellite, featuring advanced technologies like hyperspectral imaging detectors and quantum microwave receivers. It aims to achieve high-resolution detection of terrestrial and maritime targets. The "BIT Linkong-1" airship is the first in China to operate at an altitude of 20 kilometers, testing new technologies such as rocket transport, air inflation deployment, hybrid propulsion, and aerial energy utilization, marking a transformative leap in aerial innovation capabilities.

At the event, the university also launched the BIT alumni investment fund, with a scale of 1 billion yuan ($140.18 million). It is jointly managed by the alumni enterprise Oceanpine Capital and the BIT Education Foundation. The fund aims to gather resources from various sectors to support entrepreneurship and foster innovation.
