On Sept 26, in celebration of its 85th anniversary, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) held a donation ceremony honoring alumnus Chen Liguang.
Leaders of the university and Chen Liguang, founder and CEO of Oceanpine Capital, as well as the company's management personnel, attended the event.
Chen donated 100 million yuan ($14 million) to BIT to support the university's scholarship programs and the development of BIT's educational endeavors.
As an outstanding alumnus, Chen has always been devoted to his alma mater and has given back through concrete actions. Since 2010, he has made two donations to the university, totaling 20 million yuan, to encourage student innovation and entrepreneurship, and support the university's "Challenge Cup" competitions. Over 2,000 BIT students have benefited from this support and recognition, making significant contributions to the cultivation of top-tier innovative talents at the university.
Zhang Jun, secretary of the CPC BIT Committee, expressed his deep respect and gratitude for Chen's generous contributions to BIT, highlighting his role as a vital supporter in the university's "Double First-Class" initiative.
Jiang Lan, BIT's president, thanked Chen for his generous donations, highlighting that the university will use these funds to support talent development and is determined to collaborate with alumni to build a world-class university with distinctive BIT characteristics.
Chen expressed his gratitude to the university, crediting its positive environment for shaping his resilient character and career foundation. Inspired by the university's recent achievements, Chen said that he hopes his donation will help boost talent development and innovation, supporting the mission of advancing education and contributing to national development.
