LMAM 2025 kicks off in Beijing

The 2025 Inaugural Conference on Innovation and Development in Laser Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing from Nov 29 to 30. The conference was co-organized by the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), Shandong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, and the China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. 

More than 100 renowned experts, along with over 2,000 participants, including officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and other relevant departments, attended the conference.

Zhang Jun, secretary of the CPC BIT Committee and chair of BIT Council, warmly welcomed the guests to attend the conference. He noted that over its 85-year history, BIT has achieved significant milestones in scientific research, setting national standards in high-energy materials, scientific exploration, unmanned intelligence, and cross-domain mobility. He expressed his hope that participants would exchange ideas, share cutting-edge results, explore new approaches to innovation in laser and additive manufacturing technologies in China, and discuss new pathways for industrial development, collectively contributing to the acceleration of new industrialization.

BIT President Jiang Lan delivered a keynote speech titled A Decade in Review and Prospects of China's Laser Manufacturing. He noted that over the past decade, China's laser manufacturing industry has made a historic leap from following others to becoming a global leader. Looking ahead, Jiang highlighted that the industry is expected to evolve toward extreme performance, intelligent equipment, integrated processes, and widespread application, with China set to become a world leader in laser manufacturing.

The conference featured a roundtable forum themed "Prospects of China's Laser Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing", along with 18 academic sub-forums covering topics such as lasers and core components, laser surface engineering, and ultrafast laser manufacturing.

The event also included the inauguration of the China Laser Manufacturing Technology and Industry Innovation Alliance and the award ceremony for the 2025 3D Printing Innovation and Creativity Competition.

Concurrent with the conference, the first Laser Manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing Exhibition of 2025 was held.

Over the years, BIT has built a strong foundation and developed significant advantages in laser and additive manufacturing. The team led by BIT President Jiang Lan has been deeply involved in femtosecond laser manufacturing research, playing an irreplaceable role in the 43 major national projects, significant scientific and technological undertakings, and the upgrading of consumer electronics.
