Pioneering excellence: Celebrating high-quality development at BIT series V

In January 2026, the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) will convene its 16th Party congress.  Leading up to this event, a series of reports will showcase the university's achievements since its 15th Party congress in 2021.

Over the past five years, the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) has made significant strides in advancing comprehensive education reform, particularly in the area of moral and character development. The university has been recognized with 11 exemplary achievements in the Ministry of Education's "one-stop" student community initiative and has won over 190 national awards in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.

BIT emphasizes the fundamental educational questions of whom to educate, how to educate, and for what purpose. The university has a longstanding tradition of integrating moral education with technical expertise, tracing back to its roots in cultivating "revolutionary experts" during the Yan'an Period (1935-1948) and "red defense engineers" after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Today, BIT continues this legacy by fostering "red leaders" for the new era.

The university employs innovative strategies to integrate ideological and political education throughout its curriculum. Through initiatives like the Hundred Lectures Series and the Youth Lecture Troupe, BIT promotes the deep integration of thematic activities, social practice, and theoretical learning.

BIT has also implemented a moral defense system for 23 years, recently upgraded to a 2.0 version with digital mentors and "leadership tutors" providing personalized growth guidance. This approach has resulted in numerous accolades, including national awards and recognition for outstanding students and collectives.

The university's "Great Power Thinking and Politics Course" immerses students in national science and technology achievements, transforming research sites into dynamic classrooms that emphasize the mission of serving national strategies. BIT's social practice system engages over 30,000 participants annually, with many contributing to rural revitalization and technological challenges.

BIT continues to reform its educational model, emphasizing a holistic approach that integrates moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. The university's innovative "Four-Year Continuous, Dual-School Collaborative" model, supported by over 4,000 mentors, enriches student experiences with high-quality resources.

The university's commitment to innovation is evident in its robust participation in major competitions, with students achieving over 190 national awards, including top honors in the China College Students' Entrepreneurship Competition.

As BIT embarks on a new journey filled with honor and dreams, it remains dedicated to nurturing well-rounded socialist builders and successors, upholding its mission to educate for the Party and the nation with renewed vigor and commitment.
