Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) hosted the Conference on the 2026 Energy Economic Forecast and Prospects Research Reports on January 11, 2026.
The event was a collaborative effort, co-organized by the BIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, Beijing Lab for System Engineering of Carbon Neutrality, NSFC Basic Science Center for Energy and Climate Change, Joint International Research Lab of Carbon Neutrality System & Engineering Management, and Beijing Key Lab of Energy Economics and Environmental Management, among others. It attracted experts from the national energy administrations, renowned universities, and representatives from over 30 media outlets.
The conference aimed to provide a comprehensive outlook on energy economic development trends for 2026, making significant predictions in specific areas of the energy economy.

At the event, BIT Vice-President Wei Yiming emphasized that by 2025, China had made substantial progress in high-quality energy development, with breakthroughs in energy security, transition, and technology. These advancements have bolstered the energy foundation for national development and addressed the needs of people's livelihoods.
A highlight of the conference was the release of six forecasting and prospects research reports. These reports, products of original research by Wei Yiming's team, offer insights into various aspects of energy development, including economic indices, transition trends, market reviews, and forecasts, from both domestic and global perspectives. The team has consistently published these annual forecast and outlook reports at the beginning of each year since 2011, attracting widespread attention.
At the conference, BIT Vice-President Wang Bencong introduced the university's ongoing research in energy transition and the coupling of climate change with economic and social systems. He noted that BIT ranks among the global top 10 universities in the fields of energy economics and environmental economics. Its discipline of "Green and Sustainable Science and Technology" was ranked first in the world by US News for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025, highlighting its exceptional impact in technological innovation and talent cultivation.
The conference also served as a platform for participating experts and scholars to exchange views and insights, collectively injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of the energy sector.
