BIT female faculty awarded national honors

Professors He Haiyan, Chen Xuemei and Xu Yuan from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) have recently been honored with the National March 8 Red-Banner Holder title by the All-China Women's Federation at a ceremony marking the International Women's Day.

In addition, the Algorithm Department of Raco Electronic Information Technology Co., Ltd., affiliated with BIT, has received the National March 8th Red Banner Collective title.

Professor He Haiyan, from BIT's School of Economics, is a doctoral advisor and a leader at a provincial-level think tank. She has led over 20 national and provincial research projects, published more than 50 papers and authored over 30 policy briefings. Her courses, including Strategic Management, have achieved outstanding results.

Chen Xuemei, executive vice-dean of the Advanced Technology Research Institute at BIT, is a leading female figure in the field of new-generation information technology. She has led over 20 key national and provincial projects, published more than 40 high-level papers and holds 44 patents. Chen has also participated in the formulation of two national standards and published a monograph. Her work has garnered seven provincial awards, and she has collaborated on over 100 projects with leading enterprises, generating direct economic benefits of 182 million yuan ($26.5 million) and boosting industrial benefits by 2.67 billion yuan.

Professor Xu Yuan, a doctoral advisor and chief scientist at the Qiyuan Laboratory's Strategic Research Center, focuses on AI safety and ethical governance. Her research addresses national security risks in AI and contributes to capacity modernization. Xu is actively involved in global AI governance as a Chinese expert, enhancing China's international discourse on AI.

The Algorithm Department of Raco Electronic Information Technology, established by BIT and the innovative team of Academician Mao Erke, is recognized as a national-level "little giant" enterprise specializing in unique technologies. The department comprises 19 members, 74 percent of whom are female staff, and plays a critical role in national research projects with notable innovation capabilities.

These prestigious honors not only recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals and collectives but also celebrate the commitment of all female faculty and staff at BIT. Their dedication to teaching, research and national development has been instrumental in advancing the university's goal of becoming a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics. Their contributions are invaluable and continue to shine brightly in the university's pursuit of excellence!
