BIT professor elected Fellow of the RSA

Xu Tingfa, a professor from the School of Optics and Photonics at Beijing Institute of Technology and director of the Ministry of Education key laboratory, was recently elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) for his outstanding achievements and innovative contributions in the fields of optoelectronic imaging detection and artificial intelligence.

The RSA, established in 1754, is a prestigious academic institution that spans numerous fields, including natural sciences, humanities, arts, and industrial manufacturing. Fellowship is the highest honor awarded by the RSA, and Fellows are granted the title of FRSA.

The institution's Fellows come from over 80 countries worldwide, including renowned scientists, Nobel laureates, artists, and national leaders. The RSA is dedicated to exploring and addressing significant practical challenges faced by human society and serves as an influential international academic exchange platform for discussing aligned viewpoints, showcasing achievements, and fostering technological cooperation.

Professor Xu has long been engaged in research in the areas of optoelectronic imaging detection and recognition, as well as hyperspectral imaging and processing.

He has led over 50 projects, including major scientific instrument development projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, major international cooperation projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and major projects in Chongqing.

He has published 455 academic papers in high-impact international journals as the first or corresponding author, with five being highly cited ESI articles, and authored two monographs. As the first inventor, he has applied for 87 national invention patents and received six provincial and ministerial awards, including the Beijing Science and Technology Award.
