Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) welcomed nearly 1,000 new international students from 90 countries to its Beijing campuses on Sept 7 and 8, opening a new chapter of the "Study in BIT" program.

To ensure an efficient check-in, BIT's International Student Center set up one-stop service sites at the Zhongguancun campus, Liangxiang campus and the off-campus apartment complex in Liangxiang.

More than 100 international student volunteers greeted the newcomers at the airport, guiding them through check-in and helping them settle into their dormitories.

"The check-in process was clear and smooth, with no confusion along the way. The university and the volunteers gave us a lot of support, and I am really looking forward to my studies," said an undergraduate in mechanical engineering from Sri Lanka.

In the coming weeks, BIT will roll out orientation activities including a Chinese language placement test, an orientation briefing, course-selection guidance, campus tours, visits to the university history museum and library, medical check-ups and visa services, helping the newcomers understand the university's regulations and culture and adjust to campus life.
