BIT doctoral students present research findings at forums in China and Italy

International graduate students of the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) joined academic events in September — from an international conference in Genoa, Italy to the "Experience China" forums in Beijing, Tianjin and Wuhan — giving one invited presentation, winning two outstanding paper awards and receiving four honorary certificates.

The CLOE Final Conference 2026, held at the University of Genoa from Sept 16 to 18, drew scholars and young researchers from more than 20 universities and research institutions. At the concluding conference of the CLOE doctoral program under the EU's MSCA-COFUND, it featured Yumna Ashraf, a 2023 Pakistani doctoral student in business administration supervised by Associate Professor Li Hao, who was invited to give a presentation in a sub-forum on emerging common resources and public goods governance.

Her presentation, "Asymmetric Dependency of Strategic Metal Flow: Evidence from Nickel", used an environmentally extended multi-regional input-output model to trace hidden nickel dependency.

On Sept 19, the 2026 "Experience China-Academic Forum for Pakistani Students in China" was held at Tianjin University as part of the activities marking the 75th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations, bringing together nearly 200 Pakistani students and scholars from more than 20 Chinese universities.

Of the more than 200 submissions, 25 were selected as excellent papers. Two BIT doctoral students were among the winners: Zainab Tazeen in materials science and engineering under Associate Professor Zhou Huaijuan, and Tania Tabussam in chemical engineering and technology under Associate Professor Mao Heng and co-supervisor Cai Weiwei.

On the same day, the "Experience China: National Forum for International Doctoral Students in China & Silk Road Doctoral Forum" was held in Wuhan, drawing more than 2,000 faculty and students online and on site. Al-Sumeri Abdulrahman Abdo Ali, a 2023 Yemeni doctoral student in control science and engineering supervised by Professor Zhai Dihua, was one of the eight keynote speakers, presenting "AI-Driven Object Perception for Robotics: Towards Generalizable 6D Object Pose Estimation."

Earlier, on Sept 15, at the 2026 "Experience China" national academic forum, three BIT doctoral students gave presentations: Sohrabi Baboory Arvin of mechanical engineering, supervised by Professor Liu Shuli, on a thermochemical energy storage unit for peak-load shifting in residential heating; Ali Muhammad Rawahid of aeronautical and astronautical science and technology, supervised by Assistant Professor Zhang Zhe, on electric propulsion and pulsed plasma thrusters; and Durrani Shahzad Khan of applied economics, supervised by Associate Professor Liu Wenling, on the direct and spillover effects of the Belt and Road Initiative on energy efficiency.
