Teng Ge’er: Soaring in the sky!

Learn ideology, strengthen party spirit, focus on practice, and make new contributions

Combining the development of theme education with the promotion of "Double First-Class" in BIT, the results of theme education will be effectively transformed into the driving force for BIT’s reform and development.

When the whole BIT is carrying out in-depth study and implementation of the theme education of Xi Jinping's socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era, the Party Committee Propaganda Department will launch a series of character reports through special topics such as "Craftsman Teachers" to show the spirit of BIT teachers who are determined to be first-class and put teaching first, to extensively gather the majestic power to promote the high-quality development of BIT business.

He published 23 SCI index papers, applied for 4 national invention patents, and won the National Scholarship twice and the Xu Teli Scholarship, the highest honor of the BIT Student Scholarship, with an excellent rate of 100%.1.png

The excellent rate is 100%, and he is studying in BIT for undergraduate, master, and doctoral studies. Studying is the main target of his university life. Teng Ge’er, who was studying at the Middle School Affiliated to Minzu University of China before entering school, often passes by BIT library on his way to and from school. The figures who are busy studying in the library have planted the seeds of yearning in his heart.

After entering the graduate school, he took every course seriously. Due to the solid foundation laid at the undergraduate stage, he was awarded the Xu Teli Scholarship, the National Scholarship, Ph.D. Scholarship, Academician Zhou Liwei Scholarship, etc. As for the learning method, his experience is "a small amount and many times", that is, insisting on doing a small number of questions every day, reading literature, and constantly testing his own learning results. When it comes to scientific research and learning, he said that innovation in scientific research requires not only brainstorming about problems, but also spending a lot of time reading literature in the library to find out problems worth digging, then to find the law and make a conclusion through a large number of experiments.

Teng Ge’er has a wide range of learning interests and is not limited to one corner of his major.

For other subjects, such as history and writing, he is also full of love. He won the third prize in the 10th National College Student Literary Works Competition. He is an "encyclopedia-style" academic master with excellence both in science and technology and humanities, with an open mind.

Competition, let knowledge blossom and bear fruit

His learning is not limited to campus. Teng Ge’er hopes to continuously polish his scientific research results in the practice of innovation and entrepreneurship. The first "Intel Cup" artificial intelligence innovation competition is the first competition Teng Ge’er participated in. In order to prepare for the battle, Teng Ge’er "renovated and upgraded" the postgraduate scientific and technological innovation project "Discrimination and Early Screening of Different Regional Properties of Clinical Glioma Based on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy" that he applied for during his doctoral period. Due to the interdisciplinary competition, the team did not have enough knowledge reserves. Therefore, during the months of preparation for the competition, he and the team members studied machine learning knowledge and tried to design and develop an upper control system for real-time analysis of the data generated by the diagnostic system. On the high-speed train to Zhejiang to participate in the finals, Teng Ge’er was still optimizing the model parameters to perfect the display content of the defense. After 3 days of competition, Teng Ge’er and his team finally won the first national prize.

With this competition experience, Teng Ge’er not only improved his teamwork ability, but also built up his confidence in developing his interest in scientific innovation into innovative practice. Afterwards, Teng Ge’er participated in the 12th "Challenge Cup" Chinese College Students Business Plan Competition, the 6th and 7th China International "Internet+" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National Optics and Optical Engineering Doctoral Academic League, the selection of outstanding entrepreneurial teams for college students in Beijing and other innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, winning 2 national awards and 6 provincial and ministerial awards.

Based on his rich experience in competitions, Teng Ge’er shared the methods of science and innovation competitions with junior students both inside and outside the campus. Teng Ge’er believes that competition is the best way to test learning outcomes. However, the entries are not simply "strike when it's time to strike", but are more based on previous accumulation. Another function of the competition is to bring together some people with similar abilities and like-mindedness to complete a project together and improve their teamwork ability.

Entrepreneurship taking scientific research out of the laboratory

"Do scientific research with a sense of mission, and be a youth who serves the society." Entrepreneurship and the implementation of scientific research ideas have always been Teng Ge’er's wish. He believes that entrepreneurship allows "researchers" to step out of the laboratory and move towards the upstream and downstream of the practical application of science and technology.

In clinical malignant tumor resection surgery, an infiltrating area containing cancer cells but maintaining normal tissue morphology usually occurs around the primary tumor. If the resection is not complete during the operation, it is very easy to relapse, and too much resection will affect the prognosis of the patient. Therefore, it is of great practical value to accurately determine the tumor border. Under the guidance of his tutor, he and his team investigated the current clinical application of tumor border diagnosis methods and the popularity of laser scalpels, and analyzed the disadvantages of intraoperative biopsy techniques. And in-depth consideration was given to the problems existing in traditional diagnostic schemes, such as displacement during operation, deviation caused by bleeding, and long waiting time for biopsy.

After investigation and thinking, Teng Ge’er proposed the idea of combining the laser spectrum diagnostic module with the existing laser scalpel. During the process of laser ablation to remove tumors and other lesion tissues, the plasma spectrum signals generated by excitation were collected in real time, and the resected parts were analyzed. Performing spectral pathological diagnosis shortens the time of pathological biopsy and reduces the waiting time of doctors and patients during surgery, which provides a new idea for ensuring efficient and accurate surgery.

In order to implement the idea, Teng Ge’er and his classmates in the laboratory jointly established the Zhiyun Light Knife entrepreneurial team, and developed the first and second generation prototypes for the diagnostic verification of isolated tissues. And they won the first prize of Beijing Excellent Entrepreneurial Team with their creative diagnosis solution of "Zhiyun Light Knife-Cloud Platform Smart Laser Scalpel", and settled in the Beijing Municipal Education Commission Pioneer Park for incubation. At present, the team has cooperated with the Cancer Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing University and Kunming Sanbo Brain Hospital for joint experimental development of the prototype system and carried out in vitro tissue verification.

After obtaining many achievements and honors, Teng Ge’er has not stopped moving forward. He still insists on excellence in spectral diagnosis, and improves diagnostic accuracy and stability through information fusion, polarization system design and other technologies. In the future, he hopes to continue to contribute his own strength on the way to protect the health barrier with accurate diagnosis.
