In the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, the BIT Gymnasium was identified as the official competition venue of the Olympic Games, which undertook the preliminary competition of men's and women's volleyball in the Olympic Games and the croquet competition for the blind in the Paralympic Games. The Paralympic croquet competition hosted by BIT was held from September 7th to 14th, 2008. There were 76 games in total and 20 teams from all over the world participated. During the Olympic Games, 1,672 volunteers from BIT not only served the venues of our school, but also provided voluntary services for volleyball, basketball, baseball and Paralympic croquet in the Wukesong venues. When the PyeongChang Winter Olympics Closed, the BIT Team Used Technology to Light up "8 Minutes of Beijing"

At the closing ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, "8 Minutes of Beijing" showed the world the unparalleled Chinese style in the new era, and issued an invitation letter to meet the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, marking the official entry of the Winter Olympics into the Beijing cycle. In order to create this wonderful "8 minutes", the virtual vision team of BIT made use of film and television virtual production technology and digital performance and simulation technology to provide a strong technical guarantee for this performance.

Not Afraid of Extreme Cold, Still Full of Power Under -40°!

The major project of Beijing Science and Technology Plan Project "Development and Demonstration Application of Key Technologies of New Energy Vehicles for the Winter Olympic Environment" led by BIT has solved the technical problems that pure electric vehicles cannot be charged and discharged, the whole vehicle cannot be started and air conditioning energy consumption is high under extremely cold conditions, and realized the normal operation of pure electric vehicles under the ultra-wide ambient temperature of - 40 ° C to 60 ° C.


At present, a total of 212 new energy vehicles have been put into use in the Yanqing competition area of Beijing and the Chongli competition area of Zhangjiakou. Up to now, a total of 10 people from BIT (including 2 doctoral students) have participated in the support task, and 4 of them will participate in the support work of the Winter Olympics in Yanqing competition area and Chongli competition area throughout the Winter Olympics.


"Zero Carbon", Let the World See "Green China"

In response to the national carbon neutrality major strategy and the needs of the Green Winter Olympics, Center for Energy & Environmental Policy Research, School of Management and Economics, BIT researches and develops the key technologies of low-carbon Winter Olympics monitoring and carbon neutralization regulation, integrates the functions of carbon emission related data monitoring, accounting, evaluation and management and control, provides key technical support and carbon neutralization regulation scheme for the intelligent low-carbon management of Beijing Winter Olympics, making the contribution of carbon emission reduction of Beijing winter Olympics based on evidence, data and material evidence.

"Zero carbon cabin" has "complete internal organs" and "sufficient food". It uses the roof fan and solar photovoltaic panel to supply clean energy to meet the power demand of indoor air conditioning, office equipment and external wall large screen. It is equipped with heat recovery system and electric energy storage system to realize energy self-sufficiency and intelligent regulation, achieve zero carbon emission, and successfully answer three key questions of “When and how much carbon emissions come from the Winter Olympics venues? How to deal with it?


Building a "Lifeline" for the "Safe Winter Olympics"

Professor Yuan Mengqi's team of School of Mechatronical Engineering, BIT, the research on "risk identification and assessment technology of lifeline system operation facilities", designed a complex system model, and formed a set of lifeline system coupling risk assessment system for safety control of gas pipe network during the Winter Olympic Games, so as to provide risk assessment and solutions to ensure the smooth progress of the Winter Olympic Games.


"Clairvoyance" in the Ice and Snow

The project of "3D Perception and Reconstruction Technology of Winter Project Scenes" is led by the team of Professor Zhao Changming from the School of Optics and Photonics of Beijing Institute of Technology. By developing an unmanned aerial vehicle lidar scanning system suitable for operation in a low temperature environment, it realizes high-precision reconstruction of snow fields and real-time transmission of training data, to provide scientific and effective technical support for ski training. The team also collected and analyzed training data with the national team athletes, and developed a "multi-source real-time collection and display system for athletes' sports information" to help coaches correct training movements and improve training efficiency.

"Accurate to the muscle" intelligent training management system

The "Intelligent Management System for Winter Project Training" was developed by the team of the School of Aerospace Engineering of BIT. The project is aimed at 4 types of winter sports such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and speed skating, including athlete action posture acquisition and aerodynamic experimental analysis system and physiological parameter monitoring and sports biomechanical analysis training system, which can provide specific athletes with individualized training program.


Ice and Snow "That Has Never Gone"


In order to solve the problem that traditional ice and snow are easy to melt, the team of Professor Zhang Kai from the School of Aerospace Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology successfully developed a non-melting gel ice and snow material. The new ice and snow material has many advantages, such as the visual and tactile sensation of natural ice and snow, good biocompatibility, low cost, and reusability. In May 2021, the project won the special prize of the "Science and Technology Winter Olympics" Special Competition of the 11th "Challenge Cup" Capital College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition.


Let the Skating Rink Play "Flash"

The "Research on the Key Technologies of Mobile Detachable Artificial Refrigeration Ice Rinks" led by Zhu Rui from the School of Aerospace Engineering of BIT, the ice boards manufactured by the team have realized the rapid construction of venues of different sizes, and the full-time and all-round ice rink monitoring and intelligent management. A 30m x 60m standard mobile detachable artificial refrigeration ice rink takes less than 46 hours to build, the service life can exceed 10 years, and the recycling rate of the ice rink reaches more than 98%. It is suitable for more than 5 kinds of ice sports such as speed skating.


Let "National Ice and Snow" become "Safe Ice and Snow"

In order to reduce the sports injuries of ice and snow athletes on the field, the team of Professor Hu Gengkai from the School of Aerospace Engineering of BIT took the lead in undertaking “the R&D of Testing Technology and Equipment R&D of the Key Parameters of Wearable Ice and Snow Sports Equipment” special plan in the “Science and Technology Winter Olympics” project, to form a set of industrial standards suitable for China's national conditions and mutually recognized with the international community, to break through the "bottle-neck" technology of the ice and snow sports equipment industry.


"The Human Body Accelerator on Ice"

The "human body high-speed ejection device" led by Hao Jiguang of School of Aerospace Engineering of BIT is mainly used to assist speed skaters in the technical training of curve sliding, which can realize precise control of the acceleration process and fill the domestic gap in this field. It is loved by athletes and has become one of the daily training subjects of the national team. In addition, the team has also developed a human ejection device for ski jumping.


"Sliding Down" Mountains Indoors

The "Indoor Multi-DOF Simulation Ski Training System" was developed by the team of Professor Liu Xiangdong from the School of Automation, Beijing Institute of Technology. The system can provide indoor ski simulation training equipment for athletes in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and other events to improve the training efficiency of their special technical movements such as slewing and sliding, and provide simulated training for athletes in non-snow seasons.


Volunteer Service

During the Beijing Winter Olympics, Beijing Institute of Technology, as the main school in charge of the Big Air Shougang, will have 257 volunteers engaged in the service guarantee work at the Big Air Shougang, the Ticket Center of the Winter Olympics Organizing Committee Headquarters, the National Stadium and the downtown area of Beijing; 291 students will participate in the global broadcast of the Winter Olympics. Adhering to the requirements of "simple, safe and exciting" for the competition, the youth of BIT actively participated in various training and drills, and will contribute to the success of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
