The 83rd anniversary of the founding of Beijing Institute of Technology

On the morning of September 23, Beijing Institute of Technology celebrated its 83rd anniversary. The Open Day and Alumni Returning Commemorative Conference were held at the Zhongguancun Campus Gymnasium.

Zhang Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee of BIT and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and other current BIT leaders, former BIT leaders, more than a thousand returning alumni, teacher representatives, student representatives, heads of various schools and functional departments attended the conference to celebrate the 83rd birthday of their alma mater. The conference was chaired by Li Zhenjian, member of the Standing Committee of BIT Party Committee and Vice President.

Participants watched the 2023 version of BIT’s promotional video "Stand Up" on the spot.

In his speech, Zhang Jun, on behalf of the teachers and students of BIT, extended cordial greetings and best wishes to alumni at home and abroad, and thanked people and friends from all walks of life who have long cared about and supported the development of BIT. Zhang Jun pointed out that in recent years, BIT has achieved an "exponential" jump in a series of key school indicators in terms of talent training, technological innovation, teaching staff, discipline construction, and cooperative development, steadily entering a new stage of high-quality development from the fast lane of rapid development, and the BIT’s reputation and influence have been further enhanced.

Zhang Jun emphasized that alumni are valuable assets, high-quality resources and important forces for the sustainable development of BIT. He hopes that alumni and BIT will integrate their strengths to jointly create an open, inclusive and dynamic new ecosystem of cooperation, and add new momentum to BIT's development; He hopes that alumni and BIT will work together to provide suggestions and support for BIT's "double first-class" construction. BIT will further enhance alumni cohesion, enhance alumni influence, explore alumni innovation, unleash alumni creativity, and seek a new chapter of development together; He hopes that alumni and BIT will be in close contact, give full play to their role as bridges and ties, maintain close ties with their alma mater, strengthen communication, share information, expand cooperation, and build a strong development community, honorary community, and emotional community between BIT and alumni. BIT is willing to work with its alumni to continue writing a grand chapter in the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics!

Professor Wang Meiling, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Automation, spoke as a teacher representative. She said that BIT has developed rapidly in recent years and has made outstanding achievements in talent training, scientific research, cultural inheritance, etc. This is the result of the whole BIT’s teachers and students working together and forging ahead. She hopes that alumni can inherit and carry forward the values of "Yan'an roots, military industry soul, and leadership" and work hand in hand with their alma mater to build a brilliant future.

Zhao Yaqi, a 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, spoke as a student representative. She said that she would follow the example of countless outstanding alumni, persist in working hard, pursue excellence, climb to the top, inherit the red gene, and integrate her ambition to serve the country into her spiritual blood.

Peng Xiaolin, a 1993 alumnus of the School of Information and Electronics and a technology and standards expert at Huawei, and Xu Nuo, a 2003 alumnus of the School of Mechanical Engineering, chief expert of 206 Institute of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited, and national March 8th red flag bearer, spoke respectively as alumni representatives. They expressed their gratitude to their mentors and their sincere blessings for the birthday of their alma mater. They jointly wished that their alma mater would soon become a world-class university, cultivate more leading talents for the country, and contribute BIT's strength to the construction of a powerful country!

At the conference, alumni representatives presented flowers to their alma mater teachers, and awarded and passed homecoming flags. Bouquets of flowers were presented to the teacher, flags were passed down from generation to generation, recalling the glorious past and talking about the friendship between former classmates. The conference came to an end with warm applause.

The School of Mechanical Engineering organized a seminar on vehicle professional talent training reform and development strategies. More than 400 vehicle industry alumni, teachers and students at the school gathered to focus on the cultivation of top innovative talents and conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions. During the period, the founding meeting of the Vehicle Industry Alumni Association and the Vehicle Industry Achievements Exhibition were also held.

Dozens of exhibition cars from Changan Group, BYD, Guangzhou Automobile Group and other companies and alumni companies were displayed on campus, which not only brought an auto show feast to the teachers and students of the school, but also fully demonstrated the scientific research strength and development potential of China's vehicle industry.

This year coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the School of Information and Electronics. On the day of the school’s anniversary, the School of Information and Electronics held a 70th anniversary celebration meeting. More than 300 people including school leaders, teacher and student representatives, and alumni representatives gathered together to talk about the past and development. During the period, the school also held activities such as a review of the school’s founding process and alumni discussions.
