  The website of the Laboratory:

  The Key Laboratory of Photoelectronic Imaging Technology and System (Beijing Institute of Technology), Ministry of Education, was approved and established in 2008, accepted by the Ministry of Education in 2011, and passed the evaluation again in 2017.

  This Laboratory is built on the basis of the National first-level discipline of Optical Engineering and (parts of) second-level discipline of Testing Technology and Instruments, and its main research directions are: (1) theory, technology and system of the new imaging system for the detection of extremely weak light; (2) theory, technology and system of wide band infrared and ultraviolet detection and imaging; (3) high-resolution lithography imaging and performance detection technology; and (4) new photoelectric imaging processing technology and system application.

  The positioning of the Laboratory: based on the research of optoelectronic imaging theory and key technology, the Laboratory conducts researches on the new theories, methods and technologies related to the acquisition, imaging, conversion, transmission, processing and display of optoelectronic target and scene image information, as well as the system design, evaluation and simulation in the light of the major national needs. In addition, with the ability of advanced overall design, modeling and simulation, test evaluation and high-speed real-time image processing technology, it has developed new photoelectric imaging systems, opened up new applications, and become an important base to undertake major and key tasks in the field of optoelectronic imaging technology and system research and development, and an important base to cultivate high-level professionals in this field.

  The construction objectives of the Laboratory: taking “high starting point, high level, high goals” as the guiding principle for overall construction, following the guidelines of “adhering to independent innovation, key leapfrogging, supporting development and leading the future”, and aiming at the forefront of international development in this subject area, the Laboratory has carried out basic, original and prospective researches. Meanwhile, according to in accordance with the national “13th Five-Year Plan” and the needs of medium and long-term development plan, and following the principle of combining theory and application, it aims to build a high-level comprehensive platform for the research, development and technical service of optoelectronic imaging technology and systems in China with distinctive characteristics, which will enjoy an irreplaceable leading position in China and an international advanced position with important influence in this field.

  The characteristics and advantages of the Laboratory: relying on the first-level discipline of Optical Engineering, the Laboratory owns a long history and accumulation of disciplines, and has made important contributions to the development of national economy and national defense, which also occupies a high academic influence and academic status at home and abroad. Among the 70 teachers and researchers of the Laboratory, there are 3 academicians of CAE, a talent of Ten-Thousand Leading Talents in Science and Technology Innovation, 3 distinguished professors of the Yangtze River Scholars, a youth scholar of the Yangtze River Scholars, 2 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 winners of Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, 2 talents of New Century Talents Project, a talent of “511” Talent Projects of the Technology and Industry for National Defense, 7 talents of Supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education, and an innovation team of Yangtze River scholars of the Ministry of Education. Moreover, with the leading of Academician Zhou Liwei (chief scientist, distinguished professors of the Yangtze River, and doctoral supervisors), the Laboratory has developed an academic team of young and middle-aged backbone teachers, with high academic level, rigorous scholarship, active thinking, and innovative courage.
