The China Association for Science and Technology recently announced the selections for the 2025 "scientist story stage play promotion initiative". The short plays Yin Shiying and Tie Jia Bao Guo Meng created and performed by Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) were successfully selected.
The 2025 "scientist story stage play promotion initiative" aims to promote the spirit of scientists - patriotism, innovation, pragmatism, dedication, collaboration, and education - through the art of stage performances.
By selecting outstanding long and short plays nationwide, the initiative organizes the creation and performance of these works by university faculty, students, and professional theater groups. It has reached over a million young people and has become an important vehicle for ideological and political education in universities. Its core value lies in transforming the spirit of scientists into tangible stage representations.
The play Yin Shiying is based on the true story of Yin Shiying, a national defense technology expert and alumnus of BIT. It vividly portrays three critical decisions in Yin's life: venturing to the northwest in his youth, tackling technical challenges in his middle age, and returning to work in his later years. The play embodies the Yan'an spirit of "self-reliance and hard work" and the noble belief in serving the country through science and technology.
The play Tie Jia Bao Guo Meng is inspired by BIT's Professor Liu Fushui. It follows the storyline of an engine project initiation, technical trials, and a fault clearance meeting. The play depicts Professor Liu leading 150 faculty and students through 3,600 days and nights of relentless scientific research, overcoming difficulties with determination. It also recreates scenes of Professor Liu working despite illness, entrusting his unfinished work to others, and showcases countless colleagues and successors continuing to contribute to national defense. The play higlights BIT's commitment to building a modernized and powerful nation.
