BIT President Jiang Lan leads delegation to Hong Kong and Macao

President Jiang Lan of the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) led a delegation to Hong Kong and Macao special administration regions from Jan 20 to 23, marking a significant milestone in educational and technological collaboration between BIT and institutions in these regions.

During the visit, the BIT delegation held six meetings with 12 senior leaders from five universities in Hong Kong and Macao, resulting in the signing of seven cooperation agreements and three memorandums of understanding. These agreements cover joint education programs, collaborative research, and platform development.

In Macao, President Jiang met with Lvy Yuyin, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR. Lvy introduced the development of the Macao-Hengqin international education area, while Jiang shared BIT's achievements in high-quality development. Both parties agreed to leverage the geographical advantages of BIT's Zhuhai campus and the university's expertise in artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and biomedicine to strengthen collaboration with the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Jiang and Song Yonghua, president of the University of Macau, also agreed to deepen cooperation in smart cities, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has been a strategic partner of BIT for over 20 years. Jiang and PolyU President Jin-Guang TENG renewed the institutional Memorandum of Understanding and witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between BIT's School of Medical Technology and PolyU's Department of Biomedical Engineering. They also exchanged letters of intent for joint laboratories focusing on smart green economy, economic supervision models, and intelligent electronics in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the University of Hong Kong (HKU), presidents Jiang and Zhang Xiang agreed to advance the BIT-HKU integrated undergraduate-postgraduate program and deepen research collaboration in key national areas such as space, ocean, and earth sciences. The presidents witnessed the signing of a pre-admission agreement for PhD candidates between BIT's School of Frontier Interdisciplinary Studies and HKU's Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The BIT delegation also visited City University of Hong Kong and the City University of Macau.

This visit represents a pivotal step in BIT's efforts to deepen educational and technological collaborations with Hong Kong and Macao. BIT aims to use this opportunity to further practical cooperation, contributing significantly to the cultivation of globally competitive innovative talents and supporting national goals of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance.
